Sedation Dentistry

Nitrous oxide and oral sedation options that help nervous patients stay relaxed and comfortable through their dental visits.

We have spent decades making our dental office a place people are not afraid to visit. A gentle manner, an unhurried pace, and plain explanations carry most patients through comfortably. For those who need a little more help, we offer sedation dentistry.

Nitrous oxide, often called laughing gas, is a mild sedative you breathe through a soft nose piece during treatment. It takes effect within minutes, leaves you calm and comfortable while fully awake, and wears off almost as soon as it is turned off, so most patients can drive themselves home afterward.

Oral sedation uses a prescribed medication taken before your appointment for a deeper level of relaxation. You remain awake and able to respond, but calm and at ease, and many patients remember very little of the visit. Because the effects last longer than nitrous oxide, you will need a trusted adult to drive you to and from the office.

At your consultation we review your health history and medications, answer every question, and help you decide whether sedation fits your visit. Whether you need help getting through a routine cleaning or want a longer procedure to pass comfortably, we meet you where you are, with no judgment.

Is this right for you?

Patients with dental anxiety, a strong gag reflex, difficulty getting numb, or a longer procedure ahead. If fear has kept you away from the dentist for years, sedation can be the bridge back to a healthy smile.

Why choose Ray Nunnery, DDS

Helping anxious patients feel at ease has been part of this practice since 1989. Sedation is never pushed. It is simply one more way we keep care comfortable, offered with the same gentle, unhurried approach we bring to every visit.

Cost & insurance

Sedation is often an out-of-pocket addition to treatment, though some plans contribute in certain situations. We review the cost with you clearly before your visit so there are no surprises.

Frequently asked questions

Will I be asleep?

No. With both nitrous oxide and oral sedation you remain awake and able to respond. You simply feel calm and deeply relaxed, and with oral sedation many patients remember very little of the appointment afterward.

Can I drive home afterward?

With nitrous oxide, usually yes, because it wears off within minutes of your treatment ending. With oral sedation, no. You will need a trusted adult to drive you to and from your visit.

Is sedation right for me?

Many patients with dental anxiety are good candidates, but the answer depends on your health history and current medications. We review both carefully at your consultation before recommending anything.
